Rounders Youth Theatre
About Us

The Stephen Joseph Youth Theatre ‘Rounders’ are a vibrant group of over 200 young people aged 8-21 years who meet weekly in Scarborough, Whitby and Filey to take part in theatre workshops and to put on quality performances.
Rounders gives local young people the chance to explore theatre techniques which are both fun and challenging and are a great way to set anyone up for the obstacles life has ahead.
There is no audition! Rounders is open to anyone who wants to have a go.
Theatre skills are great at instilling confidence, communication skills, both verbal and physical, and they allow young people to work together in a productive, safe and creative environment.
Some great, long lasting friendships have been created through Rounders. It’s a perfect opportunity to work with like minded people from different schools, colleges and backgrounds.
We put on plays, we take part in local and National Festivals including the National Student Drama Festival, The Big Youth Theatre Festival, the National Theatre Discover New Connections Festival, the Culture Shock Festival and the Filey Festival. We also have enormous fun in the weekly workshops.
Our staff are motivated and inspiring and enjoy every minute they spend with the groups. They attend annual training sessions with the National Association of Youth Theatres and we provide in-house training on a regular basis to keep up with the trends of young people’s theatre from all over the country and abroad.
There are currently spaces in both the Whitby and Filey groups. Give us a call to find out more or simply join our mailing/waiting list and receive information about all our young peoples and community events and things you can Get Involved with.
Rounders Past and Present
What they said…
“Rounders brought me out of my shell, gave me the chance to create, to link with like-minded individuals, to explore options I'd never considered possible. Most of all, it gave me friends who are now so much part of my life I can't imagine who I'd be without them. And years of work in theatre and the arts.”
Kath Dunn
“Rounders was (and remains to be) an incredible rarity in the late 90s, providing young people such as myself with an environment in which we were treated not as a students, but as young professionals. My time with the ensemble not only provided me with valuable insights into the industry and the chance to meet like minded peers, but also equipped me with the self-belief to follow my dream of a career in acting. I am now a professional actor based in Toronto, Canada, and still look back on my Rounders days with great affection.”
