The Stephen Joseph Theatre OutReach department are committed to working with all ages within our community. We have a great range of activities for adults including singing groups, performance opportunities for the actors out there as well as opportunities to showcase scriptwriting talent in our First Draft events. There are lots of opportunities for everybody, so what are you waiting for? Get involved!

For more information on any of these courses please contact OutReach via email.

These fun and friendly sessions will explore the work of playwrights from the restoration period. Participants will read aloud texts from the period, and work with the SJT’s Associate Director, Chelsey Gillard, to look at their themes, stories, writing styles and the historical context. Digital copies of plays including The Man of Mode by George Etheredge and The Rover by Aphra Behn will be provided and participants will be given a link to join each weekly session.

These classes cost £5 per week or £20 if you book all five.

Spaces are limited so please make sure to book.

Led by playwright Nick Lane, who has written the SJT’s Christmas show for the past four years as well as the hugely popular adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes story The Sign of Four, which visited the theare last spring.

The course costs £35 for all five sessions.

Spaces are limited so please make sure to book.

These special script surgeries provide individual feedback on scripts in development. Scripts will be read by professional literary consultant Suzy Graham-Adriani, best known for creating the National Theatre’s Connections Programme.

Suzy will give detailed feedback and a one-to-one Zoom session to explore ways to take the script to the next draft and, if appropriate, ways to take it forward.

Script surgeries cost £100.

For more information or if you'd like to book, please email Cheryl Govan.
