OutReach: Get Involved

The Stephen Joseph Theatre OutReach department are committed to working with all ages within our community. We have a great range of activities for adults including acting classes and singing groups, performance opportunities for the actors out there as well as opportunities to showcase scriptwriting talent in our Plays and Pinot events. There are lots of opportunities for everybody, so what are you waiting for? Get involved!

Global Voices Choir

Thursdays 7 - 8.30pm

Come and raise your spirits with this exciting, very friendly choir! Lively and diverse songs range in style from blues, spirituals, and traditional, to soul, swing and world-influenced pop. There are opportunities to perform in a variety of venues. Feel the uplifting power of singing, and meet a bunch of new friends! No experience necessary.
£60 (10 sessions)

Funky Choir

Tuesdays 7 - 8.30pm

Established choir singing a range of music including funk, disco and rock. This choir perform regularly at all sorts of events both large and small. Rehearsals take place in a local pub and it’s a great way to meet new people, develop your skills and experience the joy of singing with our Funky Choir in an informal setting.

Dementia Friendly Movement & Music

Thursdays 11am-12.30pm

Gentle, creative sessions using movement and singing, having fun in a friendly environment. This is an opportunity to explore and express yourself creatively. For people living with dementia and their family and friends. Includes cake!

Script Reading

Wednesdays 11.30am - 1.30pm

Working with theatre professionals these fun and friendly sessions are for people who like to explore the work of Playwrights. We look at themes, stories, writing styles and historical context of the plays.  An opportunity to read out loud texts both contemporary and classic over tea and biscuits. (Aimed at the over 50’s or thereabouts).
£7 per session

Write Stuff

Script writing for theatre led by established professional playwrights. Learning new techniques and exploring writing styles you will create your own new works. These will be performed as public rehearsed readings in our regular First Draft events at the SJT. Engaging and informative classes for anyone who has the desire to write.

A selection of WEA (Workers' Educational Association) courses for adults are held at the SJT. Each course is available FREE to anyone claiming benefits (including working tax credits), and otherwise costs £70. These classes must be booked in advance via the WEA: wea.org.uk / 0300 303 3464.
